ABCA UPDATE 26/2/2016

With regards to the recent confusion over whether non residents can become members of the ABCA, a committee meeting held on Monday, 8 February, voted to recommend approval of the constitution put forward by the Public Officer, Mr Bill Robertson.

The committee notes that this version of the constitution accepts open membership without restriction, but that the Committee retains the right to refuse membership applications.

In view of some confusion regarding the application process the Committee has decided, in the interim, to accept all applications for membership made during its transition period.

From this point on, all membership applications should follow the process according to the constitution.

ABCA MEETING 12/10/2015 REPORT

There was a great response to the appeals for more involvement in the local Community Association with lots of new faces and fresh ideas at the meeting on Monday 12th October.

The vacant positions were all filled. Congratulations to the newly elected President, Carol Fortey and Secretary, Lisa Hill, both of whom will bring positive energy and commitment to the Association. A big thank you to Bob Riddolls who stepped up for nomination for the role of Treasurer at short notice.

There was a friendly atmosphere and lively discussion at the hour-long meeting. One of the projects discussed was an application for a grant to reclaim Fitzgibbon Reserve. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErxEDX-_Fdg

The recent well-received newsletter was also discussed with acknowledgement of the generous support of local businesses.

It is hoped that the Association will continue to grow and more new members will come to next meeting on December 7 @ 7.30 in the Surf Club.

The ABCA plays an important role of giving our community a united voice about local issues and promoting initiatives that benefit our town. The positions of Secretary and President remain vacant, the association needs to find some community minded people to take on these roles and also welcomes anyone else who would like to join as an ordinary member.

Membership is $10 per person per year and meetings are held on the first Monday of every second month at the Avoca Beach Surf Club meeting room.

Please show your support by attending their NEXT MEETING : Monday 7:30pm October 12, 2015 (as the first Monday was a public holiday)

For further information please phone Angela on 4382 1472 or see https://friendsofavoca.wordpress.com/clubs-organisations/avoca-beach-community-association/

ABCA UPDATE 27/8/2015
The ABCA is back in business and intends to be active in protecting the beauty of Avoca Beach.

They will publish a regular AVOCA BEACH DA WATCH on the Friends of Avoca website to help the Avoca community become aware of any development applications that have come before Council.

Rather than trying to pick DAs that we think are significant we will publish all that have an Avoca Beach address, big and small. Further information on these matters is available on the Gosford City Council website.

While we will attempt to keep this information accurate and without omissions, we stress that all information should be checked against the Council website or with Council officers.

ABCA UPDATE 12/8/2015

Correction to update on 6/8/2015

ABCA will next meet on Monday October 12 (as the 1st Monday is a public holiday)
The positions still needing to be filled are actually that of President and Secretary for the assocation to remain viable. Avoca’s increasing popularity and population reinforces the need for this association to remain vigilant in protecting the beautiful place we all enjoy. Please phone Angela on 4382 1472 for more information about the association.

ABCA UPDATE 6/8/2015

Good news, the Avoca Beach Community Association may be able to continue it’s important role. At the annual general meeting last Monday night quite a few new people attended the meeting and volunteered to fill committee positions. All roles were filled except that of Chairman and Vice Chairman if anyone is interested in taking on either of these positions to enable the association to run properly please speak up.

The meeting was cheerful and optimistic and thanks were given to the outgoing committee who were pleased to see the renewed interest. Thank you and best of luck to the new ABCA committee who will next meet on Monday October 12 (as the 1st Monday is a public holiday) at the Avoca SLSC meeting room, everyone is encouraged to attend.

*URGENT NOTICE 29/7/2015*

  1. I am a member of the Pearl Beach Progress Association, and noticed in the January 29 Express Advocate the item relating to two ladies who wanted to be members of your Association.

Pearl Beach has overcome that situation by offering a “Friends” membership to interested people who live else where on the Central Coast. We charge the same fee $10 but they have no voting rights. We monitor applications, however we love having new people join our organisation as many of them bring new skills, such as being members of the Pearl Beach Glee Club. Or, playing weekly tennis or bowls. Groups such as ours offer friendship and social activities for people who may be lonely or living on their own.

    Best regards,
